Pre-Latin
This course is designed: to provide students with a lively introduction to the nature of language through the study of the Latin language, Roman culture, and word building; to arouse an excitement in students about learning the Latin language by providing opportunities for them to participate in diverse activities, such as oral dialogues and playlets, songs, stories, projects, puzzles, and games; to aid children in language discovery by providing opportunities to actively participate in hearing, speaking, reading and writing Latin; to enhance English language skills through the study of Latin.
Latin 1a
This course is designed: to develop students’ awareness of the culture of the Romans and its significance for the modern world and their lives today; to enhance general language skills, both in English and in Latin; to develop the intellect and character of the whole student by requiring application of organized learning, logical thinking, and critical assessment. To bring students quickly to a point at which they can read Latin with confidence.
Latin 1b
Students will master complete understanding of basic Latin grammatical concepts, learn the proper pronunciation of basic Latin, including diphthongs, acquire an appreciation for many aspects of the complex Roman culture, and apply specific and general thinking skills, that they will acquire in Latin class to other areas of study.
Spanish 1a
Prerequisite: C or better in English
Spanish 1a is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture designed to help the junior high student develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the introductory level. Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and culture are present in realistic situations through listening comprehension activities, pronunciation drills, conversation, dialogues, written activities, readings, puzzles, songs, and games.
Spanish 1b
Prerequisite: C or better in Spanish 1a
Spanish 1b is a continuation of the text and course of Spanish 1a. Easy to answer questions requires students to speak about their daily lives, express their opinions and supply real information on topics related to introductions, family, school, activities, numbers, descriptions, professions, feelings, and other situations.
