Parents are welcome to join their child(ren) for the first session of each semester. Field trips are arranged whenever feasible to enhance the educational experience. Classes take place on Mondays at Wilmington Community Evangelical Church.

STEM Overview:
This hands-on STEM Science course is designed to spark curiosity and encourage young learners to explore the world around them through engaging, project-based learning. Students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while discovering how science, technology, engineering, and math work together to explain everyday phenomena.
- Quarter 1: Exploring Our World: Students will become scientists as they investigate the natural world.

IEW Overview:
We’ll shift into the IEW Adventures in Writing Curriculum for the year’s second half. This curriculum explores a wide variety of fascinating subjects. Students will write about adventurous topics such as Roman hoplites, tornadoes, Leif Eriksson, and other fascinating subjects while they learn to write the Structure and Style® writing method.

IEW Writing Overview:
Looking to inspire your child’s creativity? Our writing class offers a supportive environment for their writing journey. This course highlights writing as a key communication tool. Students will use the well-regarded Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum to cover word outlining, paragraph development, vocabulary expansion, and integrating structure and style. Course Overview: This course offers an engaging approach to foundational mathematics through McGraw-Hill Math Connects Grade 5. Students will explore key math concepts via hands-on activities, real-world problem solving, and daily practice. The curriculum develops fluency in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and basic algebra. It also strengthens skills in geometry, measurement, data analysis, and probability.
Throughout the year, learners will apply mathematical reasoning, communicate their thinking, and gain confidence in solving multi-step problems. Technology integration and cross-curricular connections make math meaningful and relevant. By the end, students will be prepared for advanced middle school math concepts.

Course Overview: This class aims to provide a firm foundation for Middle School Math 2 or Pre-Algebra. Topics covered include: fractions, decimals, word problems, simple geometry, integers, factorization, ratios, rates, percentages, proportions, exponents, inequalities, graphing, and equations. This class is for the student who could use a review of the fundamentals of math with an emphasis on computation. Having the multiplication tables memorized before taking this class is strongly suggested.

Beginner’s Drama for Grades 2-5: Spotlight on Creativity

Course Overview: Step into the world of imagination and performance with the Towle Institute Elementary Drama Program! This dynamic course is designed for students in grades 2 through 5 who are eager to explore the exciting realm of theater. Through interactive games, creative projects, and live performances, students will develop an understanding and appreciation of drama while building confidence and teamwork skills.
- Quarter 1: Introduction to Drama: Foundations of Theater: In the first quarter, students will learn the fundamentals of theater, including stage directions, voice projection, and character development. They will engage in theater games, skit performances, puppet shows, mask-making, and group storytelling to build cooperation and audience etiquette.
- Quarter 2: Building on Foundations: Expressive Performance: In the second quarter, students will continue refining their performance skills by focusing on expression, emotion, and delivery. They will also explore character-building activities, improv games, and cooperative storytelling to deepen their understanding of dramatic techniques.
- Quarter 3: Musical Theater: Singing, Acting, and Performance: In Quarter 3, students will build upon their dramatic foundations and explore the world of musical theater. Course Overview: Welcome to Towle Institute’s Rotating Enrichment Class, where creativity, teamwork, and fun collide! This year-long course engages students in grades 2-5 across four dynamic quarters: Physical Education, Art, Music, and American Sign Language (ASL). Each quarter encourages skill development, creativity exploration, and collaboration. By year-end, students gain a well-rounded experience in fitness, art, and music communication.
- Quarter 1: Physical Education: Gymnastics-Inspired Fitness: Students will engage in gymnastics-inspired exercises that improve agility, strength, and flexibility. Through outdoor games, partner activities, and fun fitness routines, they will learn that staying active and keeping their bodies healthy can be enjoyable. Students will set personal fitness goals and develop a sense of teamwork by cheering each other on.
- Quarter 2: Art: Creative Exploration: Students will unleash their inner artists through various fun and engaging art projects. Students will explore different artistic techniques and express their creativity from drawing and painting to sculpting and mixed media creations. The focus will be on building creative confidence, developing fine motor skills, and appreciating the beauty in the world around them.
- Quarter 3: Music: Exploring Sound and Rhythm: Quarter 3 will introduce students to the world of music. They will explore the fundamentals of sound, rhythm, and melody. Students will learn about different musical instruments, experiment with their voices, and explore rhythm exercises. They will also have opportunities to create their own simple musical compositions and work together to produce a fun musical performance.
- Quarter 4: Introduction to American Sign Language (ASL): In the final quarter, students will be introduced to the basics of American Sign Language. They will learn simple signs for everyday words, phrases, and greetings, along with the importance of visual communication.

Towle Reading Lab

Overview: While Towle does not offer a full ELA curriculum for elementary students, we are committed to assisting parents and their children in their educational pursuits. Our Reading Lab provides specialized reading help for elementary students on Wednesdays, allowing parents to register their children on a month-to-month basis for extra reading support. Each 30-minute Reading Lab session features a one-on-one meeting in which students receive individualized assistance from either a teacher or a teacher’s aide, depending on the content and level of help needed. The Reading Lab aims to strengthen vital skills in a caring and supportive setting, focusing on foundational reading abilities, fluency, comprehension, or other reading-related topics. Based on parental feedback, sessions will be customized to meet the individual needs of each student.
We strive to work with families in a manner that empowers every student to build confidence and skills as a reader. Monthly enrollments in the Reading Lab provide flexible support tailored to each student’s needs.

Towle Math Lab

Overview: Towle offers a complete math program for grades 5 to 12, designed to support every learner’s educational journey. Our Math Lab strengthens this initiative by providing customized math assistance for these grades. Additionally, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students may enroll in Math Lab sessions.
Math Lab sessions occur on Wednesdays, allowing parents to enroll their children on a month-to-month basis for extra math assistance. Each 30-minute session provides one-on-one guidance, where students receive personalized help from either a teacher or a teacher’s aide, tailored to their specific needs and skill levels. Additionally, before the session, parents can request support in areas where they feel their child needs more assistance. The Math Lab emphasizes developing essential skills, whether foundational math, problem-solving strategies, or other subjects, in a nurturing and supportive environment. Our goal is to work with families to enhance each student’s confidence and proficiency in math. Monthly sign-ups for the Math Lab will offer flexible options to address the unique needs of every student and family.

Towle Family Field Trip Group

Group Enrollment is $50 per family.
Overview: We recognize that education extends beyond the classroom, which is why we are offering families a unique opportunity to participate in fun, educational, and family-oriented activities throughout the school year. The Family Field Trip Course invites Towle students and their family members to discover new places as they learn side by side. These educational outings into our community simplify the planning process for your family and offer learning enrichment for all ages.
Field trips will occur monthly from September through May, primarily on Wednesdays (non-lab days) or Fridays. Destinations will include locations across Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and possibly New Jersey. Each trip is designed to be educational and enjoyable for all ages.
Families enrolling in the Field Trip Course will pay a family course enrollment fee. Additional admission fees and associated costs for each field trip will be charged separately. Participation in every field trip is not mandatory; families can select which trips to attend based on their schedules and interests.
