Towle Institute requires students to complete two years of the same foreign language in high school for graduation.
Spanish I – one credit

Spanish I is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture designed for the high school student to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the beginning level. This class is conducted in Spanish and English. Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and culture are presented and practiced in realistic situations through listening comprehension activities, pronunciation drills, conversations, and other activities. A $50 fee will be charged.
Spanish II – one credit
Prerequisite: C or better in Spanish I

This is a continuation of the Spanish I course. This course is designed for the high school student to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the intermediate level. Students expand their vocabulary to include topics such as meals, vacations, shopping, weekend activities, communication, daily activities, sports, and travel. Students will continue to speak in the present, past, and future tenses. A $50 fee will be charged.
Spanish III – one credit
Prerequisite: C or better in Spanish 2

A conversational Spanish class for the intermediate student. An in-depth study of advanced grammar is implemented to plan and present interactive dialogues and scenarios, thus approximating real-life situations. Basic Spanish literature and/or art may be used as thematic bases for conversation. A $50 fee will be charged.
French I – one credit

This class is an introduction to the French language. At the end of the year, students will be able to discuss, write about, and understand various topics, including greetings, family, food, clothing, travel, and more.
Francophone (French-speaking) culture, as well as some authentic Francophone literature, will be studied. The class focuses on language that is practical for real-life situations. A $50 fee will be charged.
French II – one credit
Prerequisite: C or better in French I

In this class, the student’s French speaking, comprehension, and writing abilities will be expanded. At the end of the year, the student will have increased vocabulary, comprehension, and grammatical ability to include new topics, new tenses, and more refined grammatical concepts. Francophone culture as well as Francophone literature will be studied. Upon completing this class, one could travel to a French-speaking nation and communicate comfortably in day-to-day life. A $50 fee will be charged.
French III – one credit
Prerequisite: C or better in French 2

Le Petit Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
In this class, we work to really refine the student’s language ability. At the conclusion of the year, one will be advanced enough to read, write about, and understand complex topics such as politics, morality, environment, and the arts. Several selections of Francophone literature will be read. A $50 fee will be charged.
